about

Elspeth Tremblay documents her Saturn return with her new album Return. It’s her return to music after an eccentric roster of jobs from antique stamp evaluator, professional artist, gallery manager, waitress and more. There are 11 songs, recorded in Brooklyn with folk impresario Dawn Landes (Bluebird, Sweetheart Rodeo), and a remix by Hip Hop rapper, and producer Pete Miser (live touring DJ for Dido).

The album took over four years to write, record and arrange. It’s telling in the time, care and gathering of autobiographical details. Her journey from her hometown of Canberra, (the title of track 10) to Melbourne, eight years in New York City (“always scraping by for the rent”) and now Philadelphia.

Tremblay’s lilting Australian accent, gentle guitar rhythms are in perfect harmony with the Americana, indie pop tracks she has penned. There’s heartbreak close by in every track. “Across the room, I catch her eye,” she sings on “Sum of Parts”. While on “Sunshine” she reveals, “There’s quiet in my heart”. Return falls in the folk storytelling tradition of Aimee Mann, Suzanne Vega and Frente’s Angie Hart.

Tremblay is an openly out artist, a divorcee, watercolor painter, cat lady and gentle optimist. She lives in Philadelphia with her girlfriend Melanie.
